Salmon River Opening Day 2008

Went to the Salmon River again this year for opening day. Great crowd of people showed up, and we came away with a large number of fish. Below are the basic stats:

Fred: 15 trout
Dave: 8 trout
Matt: 2 trout
Jaywho: 1 trout (first time fly fishing)

They were feeding primarily on Muddler minnows, black ghosts, and green and white wholly buggers.

  • Bait Details: We had the most luck fishing with muddler minnows and black ghosts. Also had success using green and white wholly buggers. Stay below the surface this time of year. Blue winged olives and other mayflies could be a good option as well.
  • Location Details: Right before the falls in the fly fishing only section. Great spot because if you are fishing with those who spin fish, they can go right below the falls. Great overall area for opening day.
